New Delhi — A controversy has erupted within the Punjab Police department following the circulation of a purported audio clip in which a senior IPS officer is allegedly heard negotiating a financial arrangement for a sexual encounter involving two women.

The audio, which has gone viral across bureaucratic and political circles, includes explicit dialogue where the officer discusses details of a proposed act, including payments and conditions. The transcript, now widely shared, features the officer allegedly offering ₹20,000 to the woman and a similar amount for her companion, while insisting on a “proper threesome.”

In the clip, the woman can be heard resisting the offer and later confronting the officer, calling him a “chindi chor” (cheap thief), after he lowers the proposed amount. The conversation ends with the officer asserting his expectations in a demanding tone.

The origin of the clip remains unofficial, but it was reportedly shared online by a Canada-based YouTuber named Harpreet Singh. The recording has reached high-level officials, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, DGP Gaurav Yadav, and senior AAP leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.

Officials have yet to verify the identity of the officer, and The New Indian, which reported the incident, has stated that they are awaiting confirmation from the Punjab Police or other government authorities.

The audio’s release has come at a sensitive time, with a by-election looming in Ludhiana West, following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi. The incident has prompted concern among political parties, with one senior AAP member describing it as “deeply embarrassing,” while suggesting that similar incidents have occurred under previous governments.

The alleged exchange, if verified, could fall under Section 370A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which criminalizes engagement in sexual acts with trafficked persons and carries penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment.

Adding to the complexity, sources claim that Constable Amandeep Kaur, who is said to be involved, has collected and shared evidence with the Punjab DGP. Investigators are also looking into recent related controversies involving the Punjab Police, including incidents of public misconduct and drug-related arrests.

In a related case from five years ago, two UP-cadre IPS officers were suspended after a sexually explicit video chat surfaced, further highlighting the issue of misconduct among top-level officers.

As of now, the Punjab Police has not issued an official response. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Department of Personnel and Training have reportedly been briefed. Forensic verification of the audio is likely to be initiated soon.
