Noida Police Busts Crypto Criminal Gang: Major Arrests and Seizures in Crackdown

NOIDA:  On August 25, 2024, Noida Police from Sector-49, utilizing local intelligence and electronic surveillance, successfully apprehended three individuals involved in a scheme to defraud people under the pretense of investing in cryptocurrency. The suspects, identified as Nishant Chauhan, Gaurav Bhati, and Sagar Bhati, alias Senki, were arrested from the service road behind Sector-47. During the arrest, the police recovered Rs 4,50,000 in cash, a car used in the crime, and illegal firearms.

Modus Operandi: The accused, Nishant Chauhan, Gaurav Bhati, and Sagar Bhati, alias Senki, in collaboration with another individual, targeted young people outside the Delhi/NCR region. They lured victims through the Telegram app, promising to invest in cryptocurrency at low rates and assuring them that the returns would be transferred to their accounts in USDT, avoiding taxes by paying in cash. Once the victims contacted them, the accused took cash from them and then fled in a car. They carried out these crimes to fund their lavish lifestyles, including partying and clubbing.

Arrest and Seizure: During the interrogation, Nishant Chauhan revealed that he completed his BA in 2019 and had a close friendship with Gaurav and Sagar. The accused, along with another person, devised a plan to defraud the complainant by promising to provide USDT at a low rate under the guise of cryptocurrency investment. They contacted the victim through Telegram and lured him to Noida’s Sector-48 on August 23, 2024. After picking up the victim in Sagar’s car, the accused tricked him, stole his bag containing money meant for college fees, and fled. The illegal firearms found with Nishant and Gaurav were kept for their protection. The police are still searching for another accomplice who managed to escape during the arrest.

The team has seized following items :

  • Rs 4,50,000 in cash
  • Two illegal firearms with four live cartridges
  • Tata Nexon car used in the crime, registration number UP 16 CE 4343
