Mobile Security It Took 55 Second To Hack Samsung Galaxy S22

NEW DELHI: In just 55 seconds, hackers were able to break into the Samsung Galaxy S22, the company’s flagship smartphone for 2022. According to a report by Bleeping Computer, a team of researchers from Pentest Limited introduced a zero-day issue in Samsung Galaxy S22 as part of a successful Improper Input Validation attack.

In less than a minute, techies were able to completely hack the smartphone in 55 seconds. According to the report, the breach won them $25,000 at the Pwn2Own hacking competition. Intriguingly, the Galaxy S22 phone was compromised four times during the December 6 to 8 event. Participating in the Pwn2Own hacking competition were 26 individuals from 14 different nations.

On the first day of Pwn2Own Toronto, the STAR Labs team and an anonymous security researcher named Chim demonstrated two further zero-day weaknesses in successful assaults on the Galaxy S22, according to a report by Bleeping Computer. In all four instances, the smartphone was running the most recent version of Android with all updates installed.

During the hacking competition, teams and security researchers targeted devices in a variety of categories, including smartphones, home automation hubs, printers, wireless routers, network-attached storage, and smart speakers, all of which were up-to-date and configured by default. According to the study, no group expressed interest in hacking the Apple iPhone 13 and Google Pixel 6 handsets.

Pwn2Own Toronto 2022 concluded with 63 zero-day attacks across different categories rewarding competitors $989,750.
