LUCKNOW:  The Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF) is set to launch its ambitious initiative, ‘Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh,’ on October 17, 2024, at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. This initiative is designed to strengthen the state’s defenses against the rapidly growing menace of cybercrime, ensuring its digital infrastructure’s safety and its citizens’ protection.

The “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh” launch event will bring together key stakeholders from diverse sectors, including policymakers, government officials, industry leaders, academics, researchers, and experts. This unique gathering will provide a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices to combat the evolving landscape of cyber threats. By uniting these influential voices, the event aims to foster a collective approach to safeguarding Uttar Pradesh’s digital infrastructure and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

Why October 17 is Significant

The “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh” initiative launch on October 17, 2024, is strategically aligned with two significant events in the realm of cybersecurity and digital law in India.

  1. Cybersecurity Awareness Month: October is globally recognized as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a period dedicated to educating and informing the public about the importance of cybersecurity. This month sees heightened activities and initiatives aimed at increasing cyber resilience across various sectors, making it an ideal time for launching such an initiative.
  2. Information Technology Act Enforcement: The Information Technology Act, 2000, which is India’s primary legislation governing cyber activities and ensuring the legality of digital transactions, was officially enacted on October 17, 2000. The date holds historical significance as it marks the beginning of India’s journey in creating a legal framework to combat cybercrime and support the country’s digital economy.

A Strategic Response to the Cyber Threat Landscape

With cybercrime on the rise, the need for a robust cybersecurity framework has never been more critical. ‘Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh’ is a direct response to this urgent need, building on the successful framework established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) “Cyber Surakshit Bharat” initiative. FCRF’s campaign aims to extend the reach of cybersecurity awareness and education to every corner of Uttar Pradesh, involving schools, corporate entities, NGOs, and the broader community in a united effort.

Key Topics to be Addressed at the Event

The “Cyber Safe Uttar Pradesh” initiative will delve into a wide range of critical cybersecurity topics, addressing the diverse needs of the state’s citizens and organizations. Key areas of focus include:

  • Critical Infrastructure and CISO: Protecting essential services and empowering Chief Information Security Officers with the tools and knowledge to safeguard their organizations.
  • Online Safety of Women and Children: Promoting awareness and education to protect vulnerable populations from cyber threats and harassment.
  • Public Digital Infrastructure and Prevention from Cyber Attacks: Ensuring the security of government services and critical infrastructure from cyber attacks.
  • Cyber Safety in Masses and Role of Volunteers: Engaging the general public and recruiting volunteers to spread awareness and promote best practices.
