Five Steps Towards Better Cyber Security: Here Is How To Create A Strong Password
NEW DELHI: As India’s digitalization progresses, most of a person’s vital and critical information is now saved on computers and cellphones. As a result, cybercrime threats are becoming more prevalent. To keep safe, one should be aware of cybercrime dangers and take precautions against them ahead of time.
Passwords are the first line of defence against illegal access to your computer and personal information, according to Digital India’s official Twitter account.
“Passwords provide the first line of defence against unauthorized access to your computer and personal information. The stronger your password, the more protected your computer will be!,” Digital India tweeted.
It also provided 5 basic steps to create strong passwords. Here is how you can create a strong and secure password:
1. Use passwords which are of at least 8 or more characters.
2. Always use a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
3. Avoid using people’s or pet’s names because this is easy to guess for fraudsters.
4. Avoid using important dates which are known to all (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)
5. Make your password look like a series of random and unimportant characters.
In its other tweet, Digital India explained how two-factor authentication or 2FA is an outer layer of protection which is used to ensure the security of online accounts.
“Two Factor Authentication, or 2FA, is an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password,” it tweeted.
The State Bank of India (SBI), also keeps cautioning its customers against the threats of cybercrime and appeals people to follow ways and means to avoid such unfortunate incidents.
Earlier in the month of August, the State Bank of India had also alerted its customers against frauds and had given 8 tips to create a strong password.
“A strong password ensures higher levels of security. Here are 8 ways in which you can create an unbreakable password and protect yourself from cybercrime. Stay alert & Safe With SBI!” SBI had tweeted.
Other tips that you can follow to create a strong password are:
1. Avoid common substitutions. Don’t substitute DOORBELL with D00R8377, because it’s extremely easy to crack.
2. Don’t use memorable keyboard paths. Avoid the use of sequential numbers of words like qwerty.
