Fight Against Cybercrime: Odisha To Get 11 New Cyber Police Stations, 154 Cops & 90 Cyber Experts

BHUBANESHWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sanctioned the establishment of 11 additional cyber and economic offences police stations in an effort to combat the state’s escalating incidences of financial fraud and cybercrime.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made the announcement while also approving 154 new positions for police officers and 90 positions for experts in the subject.

This comes after cases of cybercrime and digital frauds continued to pile up in police stations due to delays caused by a shortage of qualified workers on cybercrime and financial fraud.

With the addition of 11 new police stations, the state’s total number of cybercrime and economic offence police stations would rise to 14.

Currently, cyber and economic offence police stations are set up at Sambalpur, Rourkela, and Berhampur. The new police stations will be made in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar, Angul, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, and Kandhamal.

Noting that cyber fraud has arisen as a serious concern for police around the world, the Chief Minister’s Office stated that dealing with such instances required specialised understanding. In light of the situation, the chief minister has authorised the establishment of 11 new cyber and economic police stations.

In order to meet the need for new police stations, 154 new police posts have been established. 14 inspectors, 28 sub-inspectors, 28 assistant sub-inspectors (communication), 28 constables (communication), and 56 constables were among the new hires.

“Cybercrime is a huge worry all over the world, and our state of Odisha has seen a number of cybercrime cases.” “This effort will be a significant step toward reducing cyber and economic crimes in the state and expediting the delivery of justice,” stated Naveen Patnaik.

Aside from that, Finance and Accounts Analysts, IT Experts, and Cyber Forensic Experts will be appointed, according to the statement, which adds that highly skilled and technological staff is expected to put a stop to the prevalent cyber fraud operations.

Director General of Police, Odisha tweeted: “We are delighted with the sanction of 14 Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station by Govt. This will help us provide better service to people. Thanks, @Naveen_Odisha.”

The cybercrime and economic offence police stations will be in charge of the entire police district. Regular police stations, on the other hand, will retain concurrent authority in the investigation of cybercrime and economic crimes.
