A bank robbery involving a staggering sum of ₹28 crore has come to light in Chhattisgarh, sending ripples through financial and law enforcement circles. The Chhattisgarh police on Friday announced the unravelling of a massive heist at a local cooperative bank, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals, including the wife of the branch manager.
Investigation Unfolds with Shocking Insider Involvement
The case, cracked after weeks of surveillance, forensic tracking, and interrogation, revealed a startling insider nexus. Authorities confirmed that the bank manager’s wife played an instrumental role in orchestrating the robbery, leveraging her proximity to key operations to facilitate access and evade early detection.
Senior police officials stated that the suspects had devised a sophisticated plan, involving manipulation of bank records, tampering with CCTV surveillance, and staged diversions. “This was not a random act of theft—it was a calculated and deeply embedded conspiracy,” said an investigating officer, highlighting how the internal access points were crucial to the loot.

Money Trail and Recovery Efforts Underway
According to initial reports, a significant portion of the stolen amount had already been laundered across various districts through dummy accounts and shell entities. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is now involved, working in tandem with cybercrime units to trace digital footprints and recover diverted funds.
Cash, gold, and property documents worth crores were seized during raids conducted across multiple districts. Authorities believe that further arrests are possible, and recovery operations are actively ongoing.
The arrests were made following coordinated efforts in Bilaspur, Raipur, and Korba districts, and include individuals with prior records in financial fraud. The police have assured the public that efforts to recover the stolen amount will continue aggressively, and stringent action will be taken against all involved.
