CBI arrests Railway Officer For Demanding Rs 2.4 Lakh To Clear Dues Of Dead Railway Employee
NEW DELHI: At the time when people have restored faith in humanity around the country by helping each other during distress caused by the Covid-19, a railway official demanded a bribe of Rs two lakh to clear pension and service benefit along with employment to the son of a dead railway employee.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a welfare inspector, South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur (Maharashtra) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs Two lakh from the complainant.
A case was registered against Anup Kumar Awade, Welfare Inspector, South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur (Maharashtra) on a complaint alleging therein the demand of a bribe of Rs 2.40 lakh from the complainant.
It was alleged that complainant’s husband was posted as a Gatekeeper in SECR, Nagpur who expired on May 19 this year. It was also alleged that the Welfare Inspector of SECR, Nagpur demanded a bribe of Rs 2.40 lakh from the complainant to complete the process of service and pension benefits of her husband and also for employment of her son on compassionate grounds.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh as part payment from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused.
The accused will be produced before the Competent Court at Chandrapur (Maharashtra).
