Lucknow: BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi has accused the Lucknow Police of misconduct during a routine car check, resulting in the police sub-inspector involved, Ashutosh Tripathi, being placed on line duty (Line Haazir).
The incident occurred while Rakesh Tripathi was returning home with his family from the airport. As his car was stopped for a routine check on Shaheed Path, Tripathi claimed the police officers were disrespectful and conducted the search ‘aggressively’. Despite identifying himself, Rakesh Tripathi alleges that the officers continued their misconduct, causing distress to him and his family.

In a written complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP), Tripathi detailed the events, stating that his dignity and respect were compromised by the police’s actions. Following this complaint, the police authorities took immediate action, placing SI Ashutosh Tripathi on line duty (Line Haazir) pending further investigation.
This incident comes amid growing friction between BJP leaders and local authorities in Uttar Pradesh, particularly after the party’s recent defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in the state. There have been multiple reports of confrontations between BJP representatives, officials, and supporters. Just days before this incident, a tense exchange occurred during a review meeting in Ayodhya between Hanumangarhi’s Mahant Raju Das and the District Magistrate Nitish Kumar, highlighting the escalating tensions.

Rakesh Tripathi has publicly demanded strict action against SI Ashutosh Tripathi, urging the DGP to ensure accountability. He emphasized that such behavior towards any citizen, especially in front of their family, is unacceptable.
In response to the growing concerns, the state government has recently issued new guidelines for officers and employees regarding their interactions with the media and social media. According to the guidelines, any officer wishing to speak to mainstream media or post on social media must seek prior permission from the government. Non-compliance with these rules will result in disciplinary action. The Yogi government, keen to address these issues, has also been reviewing its security protocols and administrative conduct following complaints from party members and supporters.
