A 26-year-old hotel management graduate, Gurdeep Singh, was arrested by Banashankari police for allegedly posting voyeuristic videos of women walking on Bengaluru streets. The arrest came after a suo-motu FIR was registered on June 12 under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 78 (stalking) and the Information Technology Act. Gurdeep was apprehended on Wednesday from his KR Puram residence, where he lived with his brother in a rented home.
Police were monitoring social media for potential threats to law and order when they came across an Instagram account posting inappropriate slow-motion videos of unsuspecting women. According to Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Praveen Hosur, a complaint was filed after the account’s content was deemed invasive and potentially harmful to public decency.

Victims Speak Out as Videos Go Viral
One of the victims, a college student, publicly called out the Instagram account after discovering an unauthorized video of her taken on Church Street. She explained in an Instagram video that the footage, shot without her consent, was shared widely, resulting in online harassment and vulgar messages.
“I don’t even know what Instagram’s community guidelines are anymore. My reel was viewed by the minute, and people started finding my profile,” she said. She tagged the Bengaluru City Police and Cyber Crime Unit, appealing for immediate action. Her statement prompted authorities to accelerate the digital trace of the accused.
The woman also emphasized the broader issue, stating, “There are many other women like me. This cannot become normal. While we fight for languages and politics, we must address online safety too.“
Instagram Handle Under Court Watch as Probe Deepens
The Instagram account managed by Gurdeep Singh had over 10,000 followers and contained nearly 45 slow-motion reels of women filmed in public spaces. A senior officer told media that a court order is being pursued to permanently deactivate the account to prevent further circulation and downloads.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the origin and purpose of the content. Technical teams tracked Gurdeep using IP address analysis and digital forensics. The police are also examining whether similar content has been shared on other platforms or if there are accomplices involved.
Banashankari police confirmed that social media surveillance is part of broader monitoring to curb content that could disrupt public order, including derogatory posts related to caste, religion, or political affiliations.
