Cachar: In a significant operation against the drug network, the Assam Police have seized a massive haul of heroin valued at ₹105 crore. The special operation, led by Cachar Police, resulted in the confiscation of 10.333 kilograms of heroin, which was being transported from a neighboring state. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985:
– Section 21: Punishment for contravention in relation to manufactured drugs and preparations. This section specifies rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years but which may extend to 20 years and shall also be liable to a fine which shall not be less than one lakh rupees but which may extend to two lakh rupees.
– Section 23: Punishment for illegal import into India, export from India, or transshipment of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. This can lead to rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years but which may extend to 20 years and shall also be liable to a fine which shall not be less than one lakh rupees but which may extend to two lakh rupees.
– Section 25: Punishment for allowing premises, etc., to be used for the commission of an offense. This can lead to rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than 10 years but which may extend to 20 years and shall also be liable to a fine which shall not be less than one lakh rupees but which may extend to two lakh rupees.
