Drug Crackdowns Expand Across Northeast

The recent seizure in Assam adds to ongoing anti-drug operations across the Northeast. In Manipur’s Noney district, Assam Rifles personnel intercepted a suspected trafficker moving along National Highway-37 from Imphal to Jiribam.

Based on inputs from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, authorities confiscated 569.24 grams of heroin and a large quantity of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹5 crore. They found the drugs concealed in 50 soap cases and 49 sachets, and arrested one suspect.

Pseudoephedrine Seized in Mizoram

In another coordinated effort, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 7.042 kg of pseudoephedrine tablets during a raid in Vairengte, Kolasib district, Mizoram. The seizure, valued at ₹7.04 lakh, led to one arrest. Authorities believe the tablets commonly used as a precursor in synthetic drug manufacturing were smuggled in from Myanmar.

Authorities across the region have intensified surveillance along border routes and transit corridors as part of a broader crackdown on narcotics trafficking.
