Alert: New Cybercrime Tactic Targeting Pensioners

Published

on

LUCKNOW: The Cyber Crime Cell of Hazratganj, Lucknow Police Commissionerate, has issued an important warning to pensioners about a new method being used by cybercriminals to deceive them. Fraudsters are now exploiting pensioners by tricking them into updating their Jeevan Pramaan Patra (Life Certificate) online, which is required to continue receiving their pension.

The criminals call pensioners, posing as officials from pension departments, and request details like their PPO (Pension Payment Order) number, Aadhaar number, bank account details, and mobile number. Under the pretense of updating their Life Certificate, the criminals ask for a One-Time Password (OTP) that the pensioners receive. Once the OTP is shared, the fraudsters gain access to the pensioner’s account and swiftly transfer the entire amount into fake accounts or digital wallets.

The police have advised pensioners to stay alert and never share their OTP or personal details with anyone over the phone. They also recommend visiting the pension office directly for any updates or online services, such as the Life Certificate update. Pensioners are urged to verify any communication and avoid falling victim to these scams.

The Cyber Crime Cell Hazratganj is actively working to raise awareness about these fraudulent activities and is urging everyone to share this information with pensioners to protect them from such scams.
