AGRA: Agra Police have launched “Operation Codebreak,” a new citywide initiative designed to dismantle cybercriminal networks engaged in OTP frauds, phishing attacks, UPI scams, and mule account operations. So far, 4 people have been arrested and FIRs filed against 910 others across three police stations.

Spearheaded by DCP City Sonam Kumar, the operation leverages advanced analytics, GIS-based intelligence, and AI-powered tools under the central government’s Pratibimb Portal, developed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Technology-Led Policing with Real-Time Digital Tracking

The Pratibimb Portal plays a pivotal role in the drive, enabling deep IP tracing, digital footprint analysis, and account linkage mapping across platforms. These tools allow law enforcement to monitor the infrastructure of cybercriminals in real-time and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

Key components of Operation Codebreak include:

  • Cyber JanSunwai sessions at police stations using Kanban methodology, ensuring real-time coordination between complainants and cyber cells.
  • Rapid freezing of fraudulent accounts and real-time fraud resolution.
  • Collaboration with banks, telecom providers, and inter-agency units to track and block illicit fund transfers.

Agra police have identified multiple high-risk zones where cybercrime hotspots are being monitored continuously.

FIRs under the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been registered across multiple locations. Officials say the focus is on identifying mule accounts, which are often used by fraudsters to launder money from phishing and scam operations.

“We’re adapting our strategies to match the sophistication of these criminals. Operation Codebreak is our commitment to technology-driven, citizen-centric policing,” said DCP Sonam Kumar.

With this operation, Agra is among the first cities to adopt Pratibimb’s real-time GIS infrastructure mapping to proactively tackle cybercrime. Authorities hope this model will soon be replicated in other cybercrime-prone districts across the country.
