In a remarkable milestone, Scottish charity Cyber and Fraud Hub has announced the recovery or prevention of over £1.15 million (Rs. 13 Crores) in its first year of operation, bringing renewed hope to hundreds affected by online scams and cyber-enabled fraud.

Since its launch in July 2024, the Hub has supported more than 450 individuals whose combined reported losses amounted to £18.2 million (Rs. 213 Crores). Collaborating closely with Scotland Police, banking institutions, and technology firms, the organisation offers not just financial restitution but also emotional and educational support tailored to victims’ needs.

A Lifeline for the Victims of Digital Crime

Alex Dowall, CEO of Cyber and Fraud Hub, stated that the last year has shown that they’re a vital resource for people in Scotland and beyond. He also added that the victims often feel isolated, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn. They are here to change that.

The Hub’s free services include a support helpline, online fraud prevention guides, and one-on-one assistance for navigating the emotional and legal aftermath of fraud. With a focus on empowerment through education, the charity aims to arm individuals with the knowledge to protect themselves and reclaim control.

A highlight of their work came during incidents involving West Lothian Council and City of Edinburgh Council, where the Hub’s public-facing breach guide was quickly disseminated to help residents respond effectively to data exposure.

Demand Surging as Cyber Threats Grow

With over 12,000 unique visitors to their website, the demand for guidance is clear. Dowall emphasized the importance of awareness and support. He stated that they want people to know they’re not alone. There is a clear path forward, emotionally and practically, after being affected by cyber fraud. As cyber-attacks grow in volume and complexity, the Hub plans to deepen its outreach, strengthen partnerships, and become an enduring frontline against digital crime in the UK.

Their mission is clear: no victim should be left behind in the digital age.
