A security alert was sounded in Ranchi after an online post threatened to blow up the Central Coalfields Limited headquarters at Darbhanga House, kill its Chairman-cum-Managing Director, and shoot staff members. Circulated on social media under the name of Aman Sahu, the message warned of indiscriminate gunfire and bombings at the office located opposite Raj Bhavan within the Kotwali police station jurisdiction. The message tagged the CMD alongside senior executives and leveled accusations regarding the public sector undertaking’s e-auction framework.
Police Launch Probe After Complaint by Security Inspector
Following the threat, Kotwali police registered a criminal case based on a formal written complaint filed by CCL Security Inspector Paras Nath Ram. The complainant noted that the incident spread severe fear and panic among officers and administrative staff deployed at the premises. He further stated that the online threat appeared to be a calculated attempt to disrupt official tendering, manipulate ongoing e-auction operations, and place undue pressure on key company executives.
A physical copy of the social media message was handed over to investigators to assist with technical analysis. Police officials confirmed that a specialized inquiry into the social media profile and the origin of the post is actively underway. Authorities are relying on digital forensic tools and ground intelligence to trace the user behind the account, and procedural steps will be initiated to apprehend the suspect once their physical identity is confirmed.
Series of Extortion Demands and Shootings in the Capital
The threat directed at Darbhanga House coincides with a sustained pattern of gang-led intimidation and extortion targeting businessmen, coal operators, and industrialists across Ranchi. On October 30, operatives associated with the Rahul Dubey syndicate opened fire at the Kanke residence of coal merchant Suresh Karmali. Members of the same network had earlier carried out separate shooting attacks outside the trader’s house in Urimari as well as near a hotel property in Hazaribagh.
Meanwhile, gangster Prince Khan has reportedly demanded extortion ranging from one crore to ten crore rupees from several commercial operators across Kanke, Bariatu, and Jagannathpur. Multiple hoteliers, jewellers, and real estate developers in urban pockets have reported receiving similar coercive messages demanding money. Police records show that these criminal groupings continue to employ digital channels and localized surveillance to identify high-value targets across municipal limits.
Organised Gangs Intensify Pressure on Industrialists and Builders
Industrial units and corporate entities on the outskirts of Ranchi have encountered severe extortion pressure from allied criminal syndicates. The Rahul Singh and Rahul Dubey gangs recently targeted business owners in the Tupudana and Nagri industrial zones. The proprietor of an ethanol manufacturing unit and a prominent trader from Piska received recorded audio and video threats over WhatsApp demanding between two and five crore rupees, followed by gunfire at a residence when payments were not delivered.
Similarly, associates tied to the Aman Sao and Mayank Singh gangs have issued demands for protection money to traders in central trading hubs. In rural belts such as Ormanjhi, members of the Sujeet Sinha syndicate continue to solicit levy payments from land dealers and builders through WhatsApp communications and local operatives. Investigators are currently examining whether the threat against the coal mining company represents an isolated provocation or a wider strategy by these networks to destabilize commercial operations.
