In a scandal blending politics, greed, and deception, Haryana Police arrested two individuals for duping a BJP leader of ₹100 crore in exchange for a promised 2024 Lok Sabha ticket. The accused posed as political insiders with connections in Delhi and the BJP headquarters, capitalizing on one man’s ambition and trust in the system.
The Allure of Power: How a Businessman Became a Political Victim
A high-profile fraud has shaken the political corridors of Haryana after police revealed that a businessman, Praveen Godara, aspiring to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Hisar, was duped of over ₹100 crore in a complex political ticket scam.
The accused, posing as BJP insiders, convinced Godara that they could secure him the party ticket for the Hisar constituency. They orchestrated meetings, dropped names of senior party leaders, and even arranged encounters at the BJP headquarters in Delhi to build trust.
Police have arrested Kapil Aggarwal and Harsh Aggarwal, who allegedly posed as close aides of top BJP leadership, promising that Godara’s ticket was a “sure shot” once the payment was made.

The Modus Operandi: Fake Connections, Real Transfers
According to Hisar police, the scam was executed in stages. In a press briefing, SP Amit Yadav revealed that the meeting with Godara took place in Delhi. The accused first gained his confidence, then introduced him to Harpal Singh and Ashish Pathak, both allegedly acting as intermediaries.
A deal was struck for ₹100 crore. Of this, ₹30 crore was reportedly for “liaisoning” and ₹70 crore was claimed to be the price for the ticket itself. Believing the promise, Godara transferred ₹63.88 lakh online to Kapil Aggarwal’s account initially, followed by further payments. These funds were later funneled to Ashish Pathak.
As time passed and the promised ticket didn’t materialize, Godara began demanding answers. None came.
From Dream to FIR: Police Crackdown and Political Fallout
On April 22, 2025, Godara filed a formal complaint with the Hisar police after repeated attempts to recover the money or get clarity on his ticket status failed. Acting swiftly, the police traced the financial trail and arrested the prime suspects.
Both men are currently in custody and being interrogated about the larger network behind the scam. Officials suspect more people may be involved, and investigations are ongoing into whether any actual political links existed or were fabricated entirely.
The incident has sparked concern within the political community, highlighting how criminal elements are exploiting the ticket distribution process in major parties. It also reveals the growing nexus between political ambition and organized financial fraud.
A senior officer commented, “This is not just financial fraud; it’s a manipulation of democratic processes. It shows how deep the rot goes when electoral aspirations become a marketplace.”
Conclusion: A Scam that Shook the System
The Hisar Lok Sabha ticket scam is a cautionary tale — not only for aspiring politicians but for political parties as well. As India heads into high-stakes elections, the need for transparency in ticket allocation and better safeguards against political imposters has never been more urgent.
Godara’s ambition led him down a treacherous path, but his decision to report the scam could very well lead to much-needed scrutiny within political fundraising and ticket distribution practices.
