How Did Fraudsters Impersonate Police and NIA Officials?

Police have uncovered a cyberfraud network allegedly operating from Rajasthan, with members coordinating their activities from locations in Hong Kong and Dubai. Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with separate fraud cases involving impersonation, investment scams and misuse of banking documents.

In one case, complainant Praveen Kumar Talukdar alleged that fraudsters contacted him through WhatsApp video calls, impersonating police and National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials. The callers reportedly threatened him with legal action and arrest, using fear to pressure him into transferring money.

According to police, the accused claimed that he was involved in money laundering and terrorism-related activities. They allegedly used these accusations to intimidate him and obtain substantial payments.

Investigators have arrested three suspects identified as Ravi, Rajveer and Arvind in connection with the case.
