Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGSCB) has issued a public advisory about the growing threat of Android Package Kit (APK) scams in the state. Fraudsters are leveraging fake links to apps like ‘PM-KISAN’ and ‘PM-YOJANA’ on WhatsApp to deceive users, compromising their devices and potentially causing significant financial losses.

Shikha Goel, Director of TGSCB, highlighted the modus operandi where victims unknowingly download malicious applications through these links. Once installed, these apps can hack phones, steal personal data, and lead to monetary theft.

The TGSCB has urged the public to exercise caution by avoiding links from unverified sources and refraining from sharing such links on social media or messaging platforms. Citizens are encouraged to rely solely on official app stores like Google Play Store or trusted government websites for downloading applications.

To stay safe, users should verify an app’s authenticity by checking reviews, permissions, and publisher details before downloading. Suspicious links received via SMS, email, or messaging apps should be ignored.
