Extortion in Fake OTP Scam: Three Policemen Booked for Rs 19 Lakh Fraud

Three policemen in Delhi, including a Sub-Inspector and two Head Constables, have been booked for extorting Rs 19 lakh from a college student by threatening him with a fabricated OTP fraud case. The incident occurred at the Cyber Police Station in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar, where the policemen allegedly coerced the student into paying the large sum. A case under sections of extortion and the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the policemen, and a vigilance inquiry is underway.

Delhi: In a shocking incident, three policemen in Delhi have been booked for allegedly extorting Rs 19 lakh from a college student by threatening him with a fabricated OTP fraud case. The accused policemen include Sub-Inspector Brijesh Redhu and Head Constables Satish Kumar and Anil Yadav, who were posted at the Cyber Police Station in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar.

The incident occurred in March last year when the student, who runs an online delivery portal, was summoned to the Cyber Police Station regarding a cheating case involving his business. According to the complaint, the policemen coerced the student into paying the large sum by threatening him and his brother with arrest in a fake OTP fraud case. The victim and his brother, along with a friend, were allegedly abused and beaten by the policemen. The policemen also made vulgar comments about a photograph of the complainant’s girlfriend, which was on his mobile phone.

The complaint details how the policemen initially demanded Rs 25 lakh to release the victim and his brother. Following this, the victim’s father filed a missing complaint, prompting the policemen to allegedly demand the extortion amount. The victim managed to collect Rs 19.5 lakh from his mother and brother’s credit and debit cards and handed it over to the policemen.

A case has been registered under sections of extortion and the Prevention of Corruption Act against the three policemen. A vigilance inquiry has been initiated, and an FIR has been filed. The police are also investigating the case of cheating involving the student’s online delivery company.
