Delhi Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly cheating Indians through a fake website offering jobs in Russia.

How Was the Recruitment Fraud Discovered?

The accused, identified as Aman Kumar, was arrested following an investigation into a website that allegedly offered employment opportunities in Russia while falsely presenting itself as an official recruitment platform.

The case came to light after the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India approached the police following complaints from Indian citizens. The embassy had reportedly received 17 complaints from individuals who claimed they had been cheated through the website, www.embassytest.com, and a LinkedIn account allegedly impersonating the embassy.

Based on the complaint, the Cyber Cell of the New Delhi district registered an FIR and began examining the online recruitment operation. A court subsequently remanded Kumar to police custody until October 30.

How Did Investigators Trace the Accused?

During the investigation, police examined financial transactions associated with the suspected recruitment fraud. Investigators traced payments linked to a merchant account named EMBASSYTEST, whose payment infrastructure was reportedly connected to Stripe Payments and PayPal.

The financial trail helped investigators identify Kumar as the alleged operator of the scheme. Police suspect that he managed the fraudulent operation from the United Kingdom, although the extent of his activities remains under investigation.

Immigration records showed that Kumar travelled to the UK in December 2025 and returned to India on October 11, 2026. Investigators are examining whether the overseas connection played a role in managing the website and processing payments.

What Evidence Has Police Recovered?

Police have seized two mobile phones suspected of containing evidence connected to the alleged recruitment fraud. Investigators are examining the devices to establish how the website operated and whether other individuals participated in the scheme.

The investigation also covers a financial trail involving approximately 50 transactions. Police are attempting to determine the movement of payments and identify other people who may have been associated with the operation.

Authorities have not disclosed the total amount allegedly collected from complainants or the individual financial losses suffered by the victims.

What Is the Status of the Investigation?

The investigation remains underway, with police examining the website, payment records and possible involvement of additional suspects. Kumar remains accused of operating the alleged scheme, and the allegations have not been established in court.

The case highlights the risks associated with recruitment websites and social media accounts that falsely claim affiliation with diplomatic institutions. Such impersonation can make fraudulent employment offers appear credible to prospective applicants.

The findings of the ongoing investigation will determine the wider scope of the suspected operation, including the financial transactions and identities of any additional individuals involved.
