Centre Vs Social Media Giants: Guidelines, Security, Compliance and Its Importance

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) on February 25 announced a set of new IT rules and gave social media platforms three months to comply with the new rules. While most major social media intermediaries complied with the new rules and shared the required details of their compliance officer, nodal officer and grievance officer, Twitter is yet to comply completely, according to the Government of India.

Some major social media companies that have complied so far include Koo, Sharechat, Telegram, LinkedIn, Google, Facebook and WhatsApp. The government has not only set the rules for Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp and other social media apps but also for the OTT platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime and others.
