Around 1.75 lakh Jharkhand government employees will receive enhanced banking benefits under an agreement with Union Bank of India.
What Does the Agreement Provide?
The Jharkhand government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Union Bank of India to introduce a special salary package offering enhanced financial security and banking services to state government employees.
The agreement was signed between the state’s Finance Department and the bank at Project Building in Ranchi on Wednesday, November 4, in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The initiative covers approximately 1.75 lakh employees and provides access to insurance, healthcare assistance and concessional lending facilities.

What Benefits Will Employees Receive?
Government employees maintaining salary accounts with Union Bank of India will be eligible for accidental death insurance and financial protection against total or partial disability. The package also includes emergency medical assistance, including air ambulance services.
Employees will additionally receive access to personal, housing and vehicle loans at concessional interest rates. Free ATM cards and digital banking facilities form part of the agreement, which aims to strengthen financial security and improve access to banking services for the state’s salaried workforce.
What Did Chief Minister Hemant Soren Say?
Chief Minister Hemant Soren described the agreement as a positive initiative and expressed hope that the partnership would eventually extend beyond government employees to benefit ordinary citizens across Jharkhand.
He urged financial institutions to prioritise the economic empowerment of poor, deprived and tribal communities. Referring to Jharkhand’s predominantly tribal population, Soren said banks must address the financial needs of tribal families and extend services to remote rural areas rather than concentrating exclusively on salaried customers.
How Will Banks Support Financial Inclusion?
Soren called upon banks to simplify lending procedures for young people, small entrepreneurs and economically weaker sections seeking credit for self-employment and business activities. He said easier access to institutional finance could support livelihood opportunities and strengthen rural economic activity.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of public confidence in banking institutions and urged banks to make their services more accessible. Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Secretary Prashant Kumar, Union Bank Zonal Head Guna Chandra Gami, Ecosystem Hub Head Ranjit and senior officials attended the programme.
