Cyber Crime In Ghaziabad: Cases Shoot 66%, Bank Frauds Top
GHAZIABAD: From 2020 to 2021, the number of cybercrimes reported in Ghaziabad climbed by approximately 66 per cent, with nearly 17 incidents reported every day last year.
According to official data, the district had 6,157 cases reported under the IT Act across police stations from January 1 to December 31, 2021, compared to only 3,717 in the same period in 2020.
The number of cases of financial fraud shot up by about 82 per cent from 2,864 in 2020 to 5,201 in 2021. Meanwhile, the number of social media-related fraud cases increased by only 12% from 853 in 2020 to 956 in 2021.

In 2021, there were a total of 2,082 instances of financial fraud involving a bank or credit card. In the year 2020, just 921 persons became victims of such scams.
ATM withdrawals, OLX and job listings, fortunate winner bonuses, loan and other policy offers, Paytm accounts and SIMs were among the 1,413 cybercrimes committed in 2021. In 2020, this number was only 831.

According to a senior police official in the cyber unit, fraudsters called customers on behalf of a bank in the majority of financial cybercrimes this year. When police trace such phone numbers, they usually come from Jharkhand, Nepal, Afghanistan, and other places.
