Bima Lokpal Fraud: Ex-DGP’s Son Cheated Of Rs 3.16 Lakh Of Pretext Refunding Insurance Money
BHOPAL: The son of a former Director-General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh who applied to Bima Lokpal to cancel three life insurance policies issued by a private company was defrauded out of Rs 3.16 lakh by cyber scammers.
Acting on the victim’s complaint, the cyber crime branch registered an FIR against unidentified cybercriminals on Wednesday. A dedicated police team is formed to track and nab the criminals.
The initial probe shows the money was parked in bank accounts in Delhi, and a police team was deployed to arrest the offenders.
A senior police officer said, complainant Atul Kumar Jain (66) a resident of posh Arera Colony, had taken three life insurance policies from a private company.

He wanted to cancel the policies, so he went online and submitted an application with Bima Lokpal (insurance ombudsman). A few days after submitting the application, he received a phone call from an unknown number, on which the caller identified himself as an RBI officer.
The caller informed Jain that he would have to pay processing fees for a refund of his money and demanded Rs 4,500 for each policy. On July 31, the scammers called the victim again and informed him that two people had filed his death certificate and that he would be unable to assist him in obtaining his money back. When Jain requested a refund, the gang enticed him and took money from him in installments.
Senior officer case this looks like a clear case of insider working with scammer. The gang members had information of complaints so it became easy for them to target him.
Last year Gujarat police busted a similar gang operating from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh who posing as officers of Bima Lokpal cheated people by offering return sum insured along with bonus and profit. They target people who want to discontinue their life insurance policies due to financial issues.
