1. TN Cyber Cops and DoT Collaborate to Block Crime-Linked Calls
Tamil Nadu’s Cyber Crime Wing is collaborating with the Department of Telecom (DoT) and telecom service providers to block spoofed and spam calls used in crimes. A meeting led by ADGP Sandeep Mittal discussed the new international out roamer system, which targets fraudulent international calls and aims to enhance call-blocking mechanisms.
2. Cyber Crime Wing ADGP Engages Telecom Officials to Combat Fraudulent International Calls
Sandeep Mittal, ADGP of Tamil Nadu’s Cyber Crime Wing, met with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) officials and telecom providers to discuss curbing fraudulent international calls. So far, 4,430 spoofed calls aimed at cyber crimes have been reported. The DoT, along with TSPs, introduced the Centralised International Out Roamer (CIOR) system to protect subscribers.

3. Telecom Officials Meet with Cyber Crime Wing ADGP to Address Rising Fraudulent Calls
BJP MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy was booked by Hyderabad Cyber Crime police for making derogatory comments against police personnel during a temple visit. After his remarks were shared by an X user, both were charged with obstructing a public servant, promoting enmity, and violating the IT Act. An investigation is ongoing.
4. Awareness Workshop on Cybercrimes Conducted for Students
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Rajahmundry held a cybercrime awareness session for students at GIET Pharmacy College. Led by ASP Asma Fareen, the session addressed online privacy, cyberbullying, financial fraud, and security measures. Officials emphasized the risks of sharing personal information online and highlighted the 1930 Helpline for cybercrime reporting.

A retired judge from Indore fell victim to a cyber scam after attempting to cancel a food order via Swiggy. Searching for help on Google, he unknowingly contacted cybercriminals, followed their instructions, and clicked a malicious link, resulting in a significant financial loss. This incident highlights rising online fraud.

7. Parliament Greenlights Cybercrime Bill in First Reading
New Zealand’s proposed cybercrime law aims to align domestic laws with the Budapest Convention.
