Fact Check: Know The Truth Behind Rs 350 Deduction From Bank Accounts For Not Voting In Up Coming Punjab Elections
NOIDA: Will Rs 350 be deducted from your bank accounts for not voting in Punjab elections? A viral message was being circulated on social media platforms. The420.in did a fact-check from multiple sources and found this message to be hoax.
A fake news story of an anonymous Hindi newspaper can be seen on social media message which says “Rupees 350 to be deducted from the bank accounts of people who avoid voting in Punjab elections.” it message turned out to be a fake one.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the Office of Chief Electoral Officer (Punjab) has issued a statement that they have investigated the news that has been circulating on social media for the past few days and found it to be totally fabricated and baseless.
The spokesperson also requested the people of the state to inform/report any such misleading news to the Election Commission of India or the Office of Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.
“To get the correct and accurate information regarding the election orders, people can visit their official website ceopunjab.gov.in .
Following the spread of fake news, Delhi Police launched an investigation into the incident on Sunday.

According to Delhi Police, the report went widespread on social media for a while, and the Election Commission was quoted as suggesting that anyone who did not vote will have 350 withdrawn from their bank accounts.
Despite the clarification, the rumour persisted, prompting Delhi Police to file a complaint and refer the issue to the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) branch. The police have begun an investigation into a non-consignable offence.
