WCCB Spreads Awareness Against Illegal Wildlife Trade Through Animated Videos
NEW DELHI: Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) has released a series of animated videos to highlight the issue of poaching, capturing wildlife and hampering flora and fauna. The central agency has prepared sensitization and awareness videos on illegal wildlife trade in partnership with UNDP in India.

One of the animated movies “Live in harmony with nature, stop illegal trade in wildlife” explains how the illegal trade in wildlife has emerged as a form of organized crime. It explains different laws which restrict and control the trade of wildlife products. It explains what to do and where to report if any suspicious activity is seen by the public.
Another video is titled – Debunking Myths to Curb Illegal Trade in Wildlife. This movie gives an overview of different species which are endangered and how the illegal demand along with myths/ superstitious beliefs and occult practices are complimenting this illegal demand. The movie also explains with a few examples the common myths related to the demand for wildlife articles and provides information on scientific truths.
In these videos, through animation, it is shown how animals are hunted and killed for their skin, tails and bones. The agency busts myths around the medicinal and religious use of animal body parts. Elephants, Tigers, Owls, Pangolins, Monitor Lizards are among the top animals which are killed by hunters as they are in huge demand for superstitious activities.

WCCB clarifies that animal parts have no medicinal properties neither sacrificing endangered species will bring prosperity. It will only bring punishment.
With animated videos, WCCB aims to reach a larger audience with an awareness message, especially among children who can help in bringing the change.
