Man promises free undies to women who send him their nudes, nabbed

What’s the weirdest temptation you can fall for? You can think of umpteen things but surely the idea of sending your nudes for free undies won’t cross your mind. Or for some, it may be true as well. That’s what has happened with several women in Gujarat who have been duped by a fraud who promised them free undergarments if they send him their naked pictures.

Ahmedabad cops have nabbed a 25-year-old man for stalking and harassing women on the pretext of a ‘free innerwear’ scheme.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Suraj Gavle, a resident of Chandkheda.

The accused reportedly targeted an 18-year-old girl after telling her she was eligible for a ‘free innerwear scheme’. And then he started demanding nude pictures from that girl.

The girl filed a complaint with the cyber cell. The accused used the same trick with other victims as well.

Not only this, the accused also targeted people with fake loan scheme.

“Recently, a person had approached us stating that he had lost Rs 1.35 lakh through his Paytm account after he was asked by an unknown person to apply for an online loan of Rs 5.8 lakh. The victim was asked to deposit sums to the tune of Rs 1.35 lakh through his Paytm account as ‘advance EMI’ for loan. The accused switched off his phone after receiving the EMI amount and did not give the loan amount,” stated in a report by Ahmedabad Cyber Crime cell.

Lastly, the accused has been arrested under section 354D (stalking), 420 (fraud), 406 (criminal breach of trust), of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 500 (defamation) of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act.

Not only this there are lot of cases that are reported. So as these fraudsters are getting smarter day by day we also need to keep some things in mind so that we are not falling in this trap:

1) When asked for personal information, either online of offline, always consider whether the requester actually needs the information.

2) Don’t overshare personal information on social media.

3) Register with credit agencies and create alerts warning you when someone is accessing your credit file.

4) Check Bank and financial statements on a frequent basis and be on the lookout for any strange or unknown transactions.

5) Protect your mobile phone account against SIM swapping, make sure your phone account requires a PIN code or password to issue a new SIM card.

6) Use strong passwords or passphrases to secure your accounts, and keep each account secured with a unique password or passphrase.

7) Secure devices with security software and make sure it’s kept up to date.
